Kristy was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Her Mother is of Maori descent, her iwi is Ngati Haua and her Father of French descent. She began acting in commercials as a child and in high school theatre productions. She went on to study acting at WPAC. Her first on screen appearances were on the television shows City Girls and Shortland Street (1992). She then worked behind the scenes on various productions including Grey's Anatomy (2005) before returning to acting in film, television and commercials. Kristy was cast in The Butterfly Tree (2017) starring Ed Oxenbould, Melissa George and Ewen Leslie. Her 8 year old daughter Shia Hamby was cast in director/writer Abe Forsythe film Little Monsters (2019) starring Lupita Nyong'o, Josh Gad and Alexander England where Kristy played a Zombie Tourist.
